Be Water Wise!

March 8, 2009

I just read that the water department has a target water usage of 100 gallons per household per day.  When you start breaking that down the reality is shocking.  I am pretty careful, I do not water our lawn…at all.  Ask the neighbors!  But I just did a little analysis and checking and it makes you really think.

Here’s a biggie, a 5 minute shower uses about 20 gallons of water.  How many people take 5 minute showers?  Multiply reality by the number of folks in the house and you might get a lot more than 100 gallons.  That doesn’t even account for dishes, laundry and watering your veggies.

There are some great sites and info out there to drive the point home.  Calculate and audit your water use!  There are lots of rebates available for transitioning to water smart items like toilets, washing machines, hoses, irrigations systems and turf.

A Los Cerritos supporter, Kathy Alford, can come in and help you rethink your landscape, install the smart watering system and walk you through the rebate process.
