Finley’s Flag

November 24, 2008

finley.jpg
Los Cerritos School was honored to receive a flag that had flown over the United States Capitol Building. The flag was flown at the request of the Honorable Juanita Millender-McDonald. Congresswoman Millender-McDonald presented the flag to the Los Cerritos Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR, in turn, awarded the flag to third grade teacher, Linda Finley for her school. The DAR chose Ms. Finley in recognition of her work with students during Constitution Week. In recent years the students in Linda Finley’s class have memorized the Preamble and presented it as a choral reading to other classes. Class discussions were held on the importance of the Constitution and what it means to each and every citizen in the United States. Principal Lauren Price accepted the flag on behalf of Los Cerritos School.

Three Cups of Tea

November 23, 2008

Long Beach reads one book kicks off on March 6th.  We just read the Tom Henessey column in the paper.  The selection this year is Three Cups of Tea.  Griffin announced that he already know what that means…1st cup means you’re a stranger,  2nd cup you’re a friend and 3rd cup means you are family.  He learned this, he tells me in Roots and Shoots with Mrs. Swanson.   Join the club!
